Something Med

I can't sleep.
I'm disturbed. Physically, emotionally, and mentally.
Yay.
Where is boredom when I need it.

Anyway. To lessen the agitated feeling, I took this Medical History Quiz from MSN Encarta. Then I realized some things..

1. I know that Hippocrates is considered "the father of medicine."

2. I know that leeches were once widely used in medicine.

3. I didn't know that in ancient India, physicians performed plastic surgery.

4. I know that surgeons first wore rubber gloves when performing surgery in 1890.

5. I know that the Egyptians were the ones that are skilled in the art of embalming.

6. I didn't know that the first successful organ transplant involved a kidney.

7. I didn't know that during the Middle Ages, physicians thought the practice of surgery was inferior to medicine, and so it was left to barbers.

8. I didn't know that the oldest known medical operation involved the skull.

9. I didn't know that cocaine was the earliest known local anesthetic.

10. I didn't know that in 1509, the German knight Götz von Berlichingen was given a prosthetic hand.

4 of ten. Beat that you geek. Lol.
